I believe that many Americans traveled west in order to leave there indebted life and start over. That way they could leave behind there old life and problems and begin a new one with a fresh start. If this is a true cause of many Americans motives to move west, then there economic status would be very low, or in debt. Therefore, not all Americans migrated because of this reason, they may have been in search of Religious freedom, riches (such as gold, trade, etc.), and in this case there economical status may have been average, wealthy, or even poor as those of the indebted.

The people who traveled west were in economic trouble like most of the people in the Panic of 1837. They also moved to start a new life and to get out of debt, and to start new lives.

Many Americans who traveled west were highly in debt. They wanted to travel west in search for knowledge, homes, food, and money. Some might have even traveled west just to stay alive.

Most or many of the Americans that settled west were poor. These people moved west to start their lives over, and make a good honest living somewhere new. Where jobs and land would be plentiful.

Americans who were traveling west were in debt. They wanted to travel west to start a new life. I also think that Americans traveled west because of the California Gold Rush. Americans traveled to mine for gold (49ers) wanted to become rich and live a good happy life.

Many Americans, who traveled West, were in debt and they had personal economic problems. Otherwise known as the “Panic of 1837.” These people wanted to travel West because they wanted to start a new life without debts and financial issues.

The economic status of many Americans that moved west was poor or indebted, and a lot of the time they were farmers that needed more land. Indebted Americans would want to travel west so that they could escape from the people they owned money.

The economic status of many Americans heading westward was usually very poor. These people started moving westward for a new life without debt. That’s how the westward expansion started by people wanting to start new lives and to be debt free by seeking employment and avoiding the creditors in the panic of 1837.
